About HM Praxis
HM Praxis is a desktop application that runs your whole practice from your own computer. Frequently asked questions
Does HM Praxis work offline?
Yes. HM Praxis is local-first and runs entirely on your computer, so it opens and works with no internet connection. An internet connection is only needed to activate your license and to download updates. There is no cloud storage of patient data and no vendor relay.
Where is my patient data stored?
All patient data lives in an encrypted-at-rest SQLite database (SQLCipher) on your own device. It is never stored in the cloud. On the Pro tier a clinic team can sync within its own organization over the local network only, so the data still never leaves your devices.
Which medical specialties does it support?
HM Praxis supports 23 clinical specialties: general medicine, dental, cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general surgery, geriatrics, gynecology, nephrology, neurology, nutrition, oncology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, otolaryngology (ENT), pediatrics, physiotherapy, psychiatry, psychology, pulmonology, rheumatology and urology. Each clinician on the team picks their own, and dental, pediatrics and physiotherapy add specialty-specific tools on top of the shared toolset.
Is it available in Spanish?
Yes. HM Praxis is fully bilingual in English and Spanish, and you can switch the language at any time.
What happens if my computer is lost or replaced?
Your database is encrypted at rest and recoverable in two ways: with your license key, or with the 12-word recovery phrase you save during setup. Restore a local backup on the new computer and unlock it with either one. HM Praxis also makes manual backups, and scheduled backups on Pro.
